This is a really fabulous and rare dressing table (chest) with over-mirror in excellent condition. It is genuine early G-plan.
G-plan furniture was designed and made by Ebenezer Gomme (E Gomme Ltd) - his surname being the letter 'G' in G-Plan. The gold embossed lable 'E Gomme' was used from 1952 until the mid-1960s - and helps to date this item.
Dating from the late 1950s - it has beautiful features in keeping with the beginning of the 'rocket age'. Look at that style!
Deeply shaped adjustable/tilting mirror - with a lighting sconce at each side - controlled by an old-style 'torpedo switch' - lovely design,
Material is pale (blond) beech. Extremely well made - unlike so much other furniture of this period.
It has a lovely lightly 'used' patina about it - no serious damage, just some very light marks on the surface as you might expect from careful useage. The mirror is very good.
The joints are good and solid. Handles are the originals and complete
Please examine the pictures.
It really is a very nice dressing table, not many about like this now. Definitely one to keep.
The electrical wiring is old and needs to be replaced. This is a straightforward job for a compentent person. Or convert to low-Voltage LEDs (buy on ebay).
The lamp shades shown fitted in the pictures are not included - but these were not fitted when the item was new anyway. They were just 'open' candle lamps.
Width = 92 cms (36 inches)
Depth (front/back) = 51 cms (20 inches)
Height to table top = 65 cms (25.5 inches)
Height to mirror top = 142 cms (66 inches)
The mirror is easily removable for transportation.
Obviously, the item is not new, so expect some slight wear from decades of careful use.
Altogether a very nice classic and collectable piece of furniture.
This can be delivered to anywhere in mainland UK at extra cost.
